Aloha employees hold rallies for support

    Pacific Business News (Honolulu)

Employees of Aloha Airlines are holding rallies to “save” the failing airline, which last week filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and is looking for a buyer.

The rallies will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the state Capitol and Monday at 1 p.m. at the Bankruptcy Court at Fort Street Mall.

Captain Wayne Wakeman, an Aloha pilot who has been with the airline since 1989, said the employees are organizing the rallies to get local people and government officials to support the airline.

Wakeman said part of the rally is to get the local government to make a formal request to the Department of Justice to investigate Mesa’s entry into the islands.

Hawaii House and Senate leaders said they are prepared to consider legislation that may assist Aloha in its reorganization.
